Wales Faces Portugal in Nations League A Showdown
Wales will walk into Lisbon on Thursday night with no gentle warm-up, no easing into the campaign. Their first taste of Nations League A comes against Portugal, against Cristiano Ronaldo, under the lights and under pressure.
It is Craig Bellamy’s first real measuring stick as head coach. And he will have to take it on without some of his trusted names.

Up front, Bellamy has decisions to make and a statement to send. Uncapped forwards Cian Ashford and Joe Taylor are both in the frame, raw but exciting, the kind of players a new manager might trust if he wants to jolt a team into a new era. Throw one of them in against Ronaldo and company, and it becomes more than a debut. It becomes a declaration.
