Trézéguet Faces Fresh Hamstring Injury Ahead of Egypt Camp

Trézéguet’s return lasted only a few painful minutes.

Back from a hamstring injury that had already ruled him out of Al-Riyadh’s 5-0 thrashing by Al-Ahli in the fifth round of the Saudi Pro League, the Egyptian winger went down early again in the Gulf clash with Al-Khaleej, instantly raising alarm bells for club and country.

He tried to carry on. He couldn’t. The sight of him heading off once more told its own story.

Saudi newspaper Al-Riyadiah reported that the same hamstring problem forced his early exit against Al-Khaleej. The Egyptian international is now set for medical examinations and X-rays in the coming hours to determine the exact extent of the damage, how serious it is, and how long he will be kept out of training and competitive action.

The timing is brutal.

Trézéguét had been expected to join Egypt’s upcoming camp for their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, with crucial fixtures against Angola and South Sudan on 25 and 29 September. His status for those matches is now in real doubt, and the national team staff will be watching the medical reports from Saudi Arabia with concern.

This latest setback comes in what had been a steady start to his season with Al-Riyadh. The match against Al-Khaleej was his sixth appearance of the campaign across the league and the King’s Cup. He has one goal in the Saudi league so far and two assists to his name — one in the league, one in the cup — underlining his importance as a creative outlet.

On the night, Al-Riyadh at least found some relief in the standings. The result pushed them up to 5 points and into twelfth place in the Saudi Roshn Pro League table, with Al-Khaleej sitting just behind on 4 points in thirteenth.

But attention inside the Al-Riyadh camp now turns to the medical room and the calendar. Next up is a trip to face Al-Khaloud on Sunday — and the question hanging over everything is simple: will they have Trézéguét fit, or are club and country about to lose one of their key wide men just as the season starts to bite?
