TCU Falls to Texas 1-0 Despite Geller's Heroics
FORT WORTH – Under the lights and in front of the biggest home crowd in nearly two years, TCU pushed and probed, but one clean Texas strike was enough to silence Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium.
No. 19 TCU fell 1-0 to Texas on Sunday night, undone by an Ava McDonald goal in the 68th minute despite a standout performance from goalkeeper Olivia Geller.
Geller Stands Tall, But Texas Breaks Through
For nearly 70 minutes, Geller kept TCU level almost single-handedly. The Horned Frogs’ keeper finished with eight saves, a new season high and just one shy of her career mark, as she repeatedly turned away Longhorn pressure to keep the match scoreless.
Texas finally broke through midway through the second half. McDonald found the decisive moment in the 68th minute, her strike giving the Longhorns a 1-0 lead that would hold to the final whistle.
TCU had its chances. The Frogs pieced together a few sharp moves in the first half, including a shot on target from Grace Vest, but couldn’t quite find the final ball or the finishing touch. They went into halftime at 0-0, still very much in the fight and buoyed by a crowd of 2,326 – the largest at Garvey-Rosenthal since October 27, 2022, when 2,539 watched TCU face Texas Tech.
Inches From an Equalizer
The second half saw TCU push harder. The Frogs registered five shots after the break and nearly stole a late equalizer in dramatic fashion.
With five minutes left, Kamdyn Fuller rose to meet a cross and powered a header toward goal. Chaos followed. A Texas defender almost turned it into her own net, the ball skimming agonizingly close before staying out. Inches from 1-1. Instead, the scoreline never moved.
TCU kept pressing in the final moments but couldn’t carve out the game-tying goal, and Texas saw out the 1-0 win.
Geller, Fuller, Zoe Cuneio, Grace Coppinger, Evie Baker and Cameron Patton all went the distance, logging the full 90 minutes. Off the bench, Eric Bell turned to Eres Freifeld, Hannah Harms, Madison Taylor, Mackenzie Hilderman and Giovanna Costanzo to inject fresh legs.
Up front, Bella Diorio led the way for TCU with two shots, both on target, as the Frogs searched for a breakthrough that never came.
Milestone Night for Bell, Big 12 Test Ahead
The defeat came on a milestone evening for head coach Eric Bell, who took charge of his 300th match at the helm of TCU. The performance from his goalkeeper and the resilience of his side offered positives, but the scoreboard told a harsher story.
Now the Frogs (3-2-1) get an 11-day reset before the real grind begins.

TCU opens conference action on September 17 with a trip to Stillwater to face Oklahoma State, carrying with them the sting of a narrow home loss and the knowledge that, on nights like this, the margins in front of goal can define a season.
