Syracuse Falls to Boston College 2–0 Despite Shot Advantage

CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — Syracuse walked off the Newton Campus Lacrosse and Soccer Field on Friday night with the stat sheet, but not the result.

The Orange fired 19 shots to Boston College’s 8, dictated long stretches of play, and still lost 2–0. The Eagles needed only a few clear looks to make it hurt.

The breakthrough came in the 53rd minute, when Michael Asare finally punished Syracuse’s wastefulness in front of goal. After a first half in which the Orange pushed the tempo and piled on attempts without reward, Asare’s finish flipped the night on its head and gave Boston College a lead it never surrendered.

Syracuse kept coming. The pressure stayed high, the chances kept arriving, but the final touch never did.

The Eagles made sure there was no way back. Russell Brown doubled the advantage, slotting home off a setup from Moritz Gundelach to give Boston College its insurance goal and the cushion it had been chasing. From there, the hosts managed the game, absorbed pressure, and watched the clock work in their favor.

In goal for Syracuse, Kyle Jansen was called on only once and made the save, but the damage had already been done at the other end. The loss drops the Orange to 4-3-0 overall and 0-2-0 in conference play, while Boston College improves to 4-1-1 and 1-1-0 in the league.

Syracuse won the shot count. Boston College won the scoreboard. That’s the one that travels with you.

The Orange don’t have long to dwell. They head to Colgate on Tuesday, September 15 at 7 p.m., needing not just a response, but a ruthless edge in front of goal that has so far gone missing in ACC play.
