Rhian Brewster to Miss Next Two Matches for Derby County

Derby County will be without forward Rhian Brewster for at least their next two matches after the striker suffered concussion in Saturday’s 3-0 defeat by West Ham United.

The 26-year-old lasted only 22 minutes at Pride Park before he was forced off, cutting short what had been a promising run of involvement at the start of the Championship season. He has featured in all five of Derby’s league fixtures so far, starting the last two as John Eustace looked to play him into rhythm.

The impact of the blow was clear. Brewster felt dizzy and sick during the game and was described as “really groggy” on Saturday night, Eustace told BBC Radio Derby. Medical protocols now rule him out of action for a minimum of two matches.

For Eustace, it is a setback just as his plans for the forward line were beginning to take shape.

“It’s a big blow because I was really excited to give him a run of games – he’s a top performer at this level and he needs to get fit and get games under his belt so it’s a shame now for him to miss another couple,” the Rams boss said.

Derby must now adjust quickly. They host West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday, 9 September (19:45 BST), a key early-season test that they will have to face without one of their main attacking options.
