Paul Pogba is on the verge of ending his stint at Monaco after suffering another thigh injury. This marks a grim moment for the French midfielder, whose comeback has been troubled since returning from a doping ban.

Monaco Moves Toward Contract Termination

Reports from L'Equipe reveal that Monaco plans to terminate Pogba's contract following his recent left thigh injury sustained during a training session at St George’s Park. During a small-sided game, Pogba collapsed in intense pain, confirming what the club had already decided weeks earlier.

The club had informed Pogba that they intended to end his two-year deal and told him he could look for opportunities elsewhere. Now, both sides are working on a financial settlement, with Pogba reportedly earning less than £44,000 per week.

A Troubled Return to Football

Pogba made his return to professional football in March 2025 after having his doping ban reduced on appeal. He joined Monaco in hopes of reviving his career following a mutual contract termination with Juventus. Unfortunately, his time in Ligue 1 has been riddled with problems.

Monaco viewed the pre-season as critical for evaluating Pogba’s fitness, but he only managed 45 minutes in a friendly win over Saint-Priest on July 18. A right knee issue sidelined him for four games, and just days before the latest injury, he had returned to full team training.

The club’s board has approached the matter with respect given Pogba’s stature, though the disappointment is clear. General manager Thiago Scuro addressed the situation openly at a recent press conference, stating:

“The truth is that the project with Pogba did not work well last season. When we started it, our expectations were very different. Is he likely to leave? Yes, of course.”

After signing with Monaco, Pogba expressed relief, telling Daily Mail Sport:

“We went through hell. A time of darkness. But this is my second chance, I have to use it.”
