Palmeiras did not just beat Santos on Wednesday night. They dismantled them.

Lopez seals it as Santos unravel
After the break, the pattern hardened.
Santos pushed a little higher, tried to stitch together passing moves, but every misplaced touch invited Palmeiras to break. The pressure eventually told again.

The context for Cuca’s rotation call is clear: a punishing calendar and a star forward pushed through three full matches in quick succession. The consequence, though, was on the scoreboard.
Now the schedule offers no mercy. Santos must regroup for a fierce away derby against Corinthians in the Campeonato Brasileiro this weekend, a fixture that rarely forgives mental or physical fatigue.
After that comes the return leg at Vila Belmiro, where they will be asked to overturn a three-goal deficit against a Palmeiras side that has already shown its cutting edge. Then, a trip to Internacional waits on the horizon.
For Santos, the equation is simple and unforgiving. Neymar needs to return to the starting XI, restore some attacking sharpness and give this cup run a pulse again.
If he cannot, or if the response falls short, Wednesday night may be remembered as the moment their Copa do Brasil campaign effectively ended.
