Monaco vs Strasbourg: Key Ligue 1 Showdown
The GFFN Ligue 1 predictions duel is back for the 2026/27 season, and there’s already daylight between the contenders. Editor-in-chief Luke Entwistle has sprinted out of the blocks with 15 points, leaving sub-editor Bastien Cheval playing catch-up on 8.
Now comes a weekend that could stretch that gap or drag Bastien right back into it.
Game of the week: Strasbourg v Monaco
Saturday’s headline act at the Meinau has all the ingredients of an early-season marker. RC Strasbourg Alsace, the most ruthless attack in the division, welcome an AS Monaco side that has turned into a machine under Filipe Luís.
Monaco arrive in Alsace with a perfect record under their new manager: five wins from five, capped by a statement victory over Paris Saint-Germain at the Parc des Princes last week. They boast the best defence in Ligue 1. They look organised, ruthless, and hard to shake.
Strasbourg do not particularly care.
Le Racing smashed six past ESTAC Troyes in their last outing and had already shown their steel with a 2-1 win over RC Lens at the Meinau the previous week. They can hurt you in waves, and they have already proved they can take down the bigger names.
Something has to crack. Either Monaco’s defensive wall, or Strasbourg’s attacking swagger.
There is a twist for the visitors. Mamadou Coulibaly has been ruled out with a quadriceps injury, forcing Filipe Luís into his first real change to what has been a very settled side. Strasbourg, by contrast, have no new injuries and no returns; same squad, same rhythm, same threat.
Both Luke and Bastien see this one as too tight to call. They’re united on a 2-2 draw.
Luke’s Ligue 1 predictions
Luke, with the early advantage on the leaderboard, is backing goals and a few bold home statements:

- Auxerre 0-1 Nice
- Lorient 0-2 Toulouse
- Paris FC 2-1 Lyon

He leans heavily towards Lille and PSG winning comfortably, and he gives Toulouse a big away result in Lorient. Lyon, in his view, stumble again at Paris FC.
Bastien’s predictions
Chasing an early deficit, Bastien mirrors some of Luke’s calls but looks for his openings elsewhere:

He matches Luke on Rennes, Strasbourg, Auxerre, Paris FC and PSG, but he plays it tighter with Lille, backs Lorient instead of Toulouse, and tips Le Mans to edge Lens rather than share the points.
The margins are thin. A late goal in Lorient, a single strike in Le Mans, one more or one less for Lille – that’s where this week’s bragging rights could swing.
Luke is in control for now. But with a volatile card like Strasbourg v Monaco on the table, this round of predictions could flip the whole contest on its head.
