Martin Sherif Charged by FA for Betting Breaches

Everton forward Martin Sherif has been charged by the Football Association over alleged breaches of betting regulations spanning a 15-month period.

The 20-year-old is accused of placing 61 bets on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. He has been given until Monday, 17 August to respond to the charges.

“Martin Sherif of Everton FC has been charged with breaching the FA's betting rules,” an FA statement confirmed. “It's alleged that the player breached FA Rule E1.2 in respect of 61 bets placed on football matches between 20 November 2024 and 12 February 2026. Martin Sherif has until Monday 17 August to provide a response.”

Young career checked by controversy

Born in Liberia, Sherif joined Everton’s academy in 2019 and forced his way into first-team training at the start of 2025, a rapid rise that underlined the club’s belief in his potential.

Last summer he stepped into senior football with a loan move to League One side Rotherham United, where he scored twice in 10 appearances before injuries cut that spell short and prompted Everton to recall him in December.

He returned to League One in February, this time with Port Vale for the remainder of the campaign. Sherif again found the net twice, this time across 17 league games, but could not prevent Vale from slipping to relegation.

Now, instead of focusing solely on the next step in his development, the forward faces a formal FA process and a deadline that may shape the next phase of his career.
