Manchester United Injury Woes: Amad Diallo and Mason Mount Updates
Manchester United’s week has gone from bad to worse.
Barely 48 hours after a bruising opening-day defeat at Hull City, the club has been hit with a fresh injury blow, with Amad Diallo now expected to miss around six weeks after picking up a problem in training.
The setback, revealed by a well-sourced United insider via UtdDistrict, explains the winger’s absence from the travelling squad for the trip to the MKM Stadium. What initially looked like a tactical omission now appears to be the start of a lengthy spell on the sidelines.
Amad sidelined for start of season
For Amad, the timing could hardly be more cruel. This was supposed to be a season where he pushed for a regular role; instead, he may not feature until the start of October.
His projected layoff means he is set to miss a cluster of early fixtures, including United’s first home game of the 2026/27 campaign against Ipswich Town at Old Trafford on Sunday. The club has yet to issue an official medical update, but fans will now be watching for confirmation from United’s channels in the coming days.
The news lands just as frustration around the squad’s availability was already building.
Mount’s fitness questioned again
Mason Mount is back in the conversation for the wrong reasons. The midfielder suffered a hamstring injury during United’s pre-season clash with Paris Saint-Germain, ruling him out of the remaining friendlies and the defeat at Hull.
It is another chapter in a difficult fitness record since his arrival in 2023. Mount has yet to complete a full season without a significant interruption, and every new issue only deepens the sense that United cannot fully rely on him over the long haul.
There is some optimism around this latest problem, with suggestions the hamstring issue may be minor. The next few days at Carrington will be telling. If Mount returns to full training before Ipswich, it would at least offer the manager one badly needed boost in a week dominated by medical updates.
De Ligt and Baleba also waiting
Amad and Mount are not alone in the treatment room.
Matthijs de Ligt remains unavailable as he continues his recovery from the back injury that ended his 2025/26 campaign in November. His absence strips United of a major presence at the back at a time when defensive stability is already under scrutiny.
Incoming midfielder Carlos Baleba will also have to wait before making his mark. His move is edging towards completion, but he is still nursing the ankle ligament injury sustained during pre-season with Brighton and Hove Albion. By the time he is ready to feature, the season could already have a clear rhythm without him.
Six days to reset
United now have six days to regroup after the flat, deflating loss at Hull and prepare for their Old Trafford curtain-raiser against newly promoted Ipswich Town.
The mood around the club hinges on what happens in those six days: will Mount reappear on the training pitch? Will the club clarify Amad’s situation with a firm timeline? Can the squad absorb another key absentee without the season’s narrative turning anxious before it has even begun?
The injuries are stacking up. The fixtures are coming. United’s response, on and off the pitch, will say plenty about where this campaign is really heading.
