Lorenzo Amaral Leads Brown to 1-0 Victory Over Saint Peter's
PROVIDENCE, R.I. — The clock was draining away, the match drifting toward a stalemate, when Lorenzo Amaral finally ripped it out of Saint Peter’s hands.
In the 86th minute at Stevenson-Pincince Field, Amaral buried the winner to give Brown a 1-0 victory on Saturday night, pushing the Bears to 2-1 on the season and a perfect 2-0 at home.
The goal, his second of the year, capped a night in which Amaral was relentless. He finished with a game-high six shots, a constant threat cutting through a Saint Peter’s back line that spent most of the evening on its heels. The move that mattered most came late: a sequence involving Carlo Brown and Alex Sauerbrei, whose build-up work set Amaral free to finally beat goalkeeper Sebastian Heredia-Randen.
Brown controlled much of the match and finished with a 12-7 edge in shots. The Bears dictated tempo early, then tightened the screw as the game wore on. Saint Peter’s hung in, but the pressure kept mounting.
First Half
The first half told the story of Brown’s intent, even if not yet the scoreline. The Bears outshot the Peacocks 6-3 in the opening 45 minutes, with Amaral alone accounting for five efforts. He probed from distance, drifted between lines, and repeatedly tested the visitors’ resolve, but Saint Peter’s survived to reach the break level at 0-0.
Second Half
After halftime, Brown’s push sharpened. Midway through the second half, Mateo Pereyra forced Heredia-Randen into a save that brought the crowd to life and earned a corner. Off that set piece, the ball spilled to James Snaith at the edge of the 18-yard box. His driven shot looked destined for the net before Heredia-Randen again reacted sharply to keep it out.
Those moments hinted that a breakthrough was coming. It just took until the 86th minute for Brown’s dominance to show on the scoreboard.
At the other end, first-time starter Graham Kois handled his assignment with composure. The Brown goalkeeper made two saves in his debut start for the Bears, staying alert in a match where long stretches belonged to his teammates in front of him.
When the final whistle went, the numbers matched the eye test: Brown on the front foot, Amaral at the heart of it, and a home record that now reads perfect.
