Konrad Laimer Injury Scare for Bayern Munich in Pre-Season Friendly

Konrad Laimer gave Bayern Munich an early scare after suffering a right-leg injury in a pre-season friendly, forcing Vincent Kompany into a change inside the opening 10 minutes.

The Austria international went down following a challenge and immediately signalled trouble. The replays did little to clarify the exact damage – whether it was his knee, his thigh, or an awkward combination of both – but his reaction told its own story.

Laimer was clearly in significant pain. Two Bayern staff members had to help the 29-year-old off the pitch, his right leg quickly wrapped in bandages as he made his way to the sidelines.

Kompany turned to Sacha Boey as an early replacement in the ninth minute. Boey’s appearance comes against the backdrop of ongoing uncertainty over his future, with the defender still expected to leave the club before the transfer window closes.

For Bayern, this test against last season’s third-placed Bundesliga side serves as the penultimate outing of their summer schedule. The countdown is now on: the Super Cup against Borussia Dortmund awaits on Saturday week, before a meeting with 2. Bundesliga side 1. FC Heidenheim on Tuesday.

Laimer’s condition, and how quickly he can return, may shape how ready Bayern truly are when the first piece of silverware goes on the line.
