Juventus Target Balogun as Arsenal Pursue Álvarez
The market hasn’t exploded yet, but the big clubs are already moving their pieces. Across Europe’s top leagues, strikers are the currency of the summer, and several giants are hunting the same names.
Juventus turn to Balogun as Plan B
In Turin, Juventus are drawing a clear line through their shortlist. According to Gazzetta dello Sport, AS Monaco and USMNT striker Folarin Balogun has emerged as a serious option, viewed as an alternative to Paris Saint-Germain’s Randal Kolo Muani.
Juve want a forward who can stretch defences, attack space, and hurt teams with runs in behind. Balogun fits that profile. At 25, he is entering his prime and already proven in Ligue 1 and on the international stage.
He will not come cheap. An offer in the region of €50 million is expected to be required, and Juventus are not alone. Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Tottenham Hotspur have all been linked with the American, creating the kind of market tension Monaco were hoping for when they set their price.
If Kolo Muani proves too costly or too complicated, the pressure on Juventus to move decisively for Balogun will only grow.
Arsenal eye Álvarez – and weigh Gyökeres sacrifice
In north London, Arsenal are working on a very different kind of deal – one that could reshape Mikel Arteta’s attack.
TalkSPORT reports that the Gunners are exploring a player-exchange offer to sign Atlético Madrid forward Julián Álvarez, with Viktor Gyökeres potentially included as part of the package. Atlético are understood to hold an interest in the 28-year-old Swede, who hit 14 goals in 36 Premier League matches last season.
Yet the path is anything but clear. Álvarez has identified Barcelona as his preferred destination, and any transfer would cost upwards of €150 million. Arsenal, for now, have not fully accelerated their pursuit, leaving the scenario more as a possibility than a live negotiation.
For Gyökeres, the situation is stark. He arrived as a key part of Arsenal’s attacking plan but could already be among the players Arteta is willing to replace this summer if the right elite forward becomes available. One big move at the top of the market, and his future shifts.
While Arsenal weigh that gamble, the rest of their forward line is drawing heavy interest. TEAMtalk reports that Juventus, RB Leipzig and several Saudi Pro League clubs are tracking Gabriel Martinelli. On the opposite flank, Leandro Trossard has agreed a €20 million move to Besiktas, signalling the first real crack in Arteta’s attacking depth chart.
Barcelona watch Romero and scan the striker market
Barcelona, meanwhile, are trying to solve several problems at once.
At the back, they are keeping close tabs on Tottenham Hotspur captain Cristian Romero. As reported by Fabrizio Romano, the 28-year-old’s camp has informed Spurs of his desire to seek a new challenge this summer. That has alerted Barça, who admire his profile, even if their current priority remains a forward.
Internazionale are also following the Argentina international, adding a Serie A option to his list of suitors and ensuring Spurs face a summer of uncomfortable conversations if Romero pushes to go.
Up front, Barcelona’s recruitment team is working through a more pragmatic list. Sport reports that Hoffenheim striker Fisnik Asllani remains on their radar, with a €29 million release clause sitting temptingly in his contract.
There is also the free-agent route. Dusan Vlahovic, 26, is available after his Juventus contract expired. On paper, he offers top-level pedigree at zero fee. In reality, Barça are said to be unimpressed by his salary demands, and Besiktas are now in position to hand him a three-year deal. If that agreement lands, one of the window’s most intriguing free transfers will head to Istanbul, not Catalonia.
Mazraoui on AC Milan’s list
In Italy, AC Milan are reshaping their squad under new manager Ruben Amorim, and one familiar name has appeared on his shortlist.
Calciomercato reports that Manchester United defender Noussair Mazraoui has been added to Milan’s targets. Amorim worked with the 28-year-old at Old Trafford and sees him as a potential replacement for Pervis Estupiñán, who has been linked with Aston Villa.
Any deal, though, will hinge on the player. United are not keen to let Mazraoui go, so Milan’s chances are expected to depend on whether he actively pushes for a move to San Siro.
Done deals: Greenwood to Fenerbahçe, Tielemans to United, Diani to London
While many of the headline names remain in motion, a few important transfers are already over the line.
Mason Greenwood has left Marseille for Fenerbahçe, signing a four-year deal in a move worth €40 million. Manchester United will receive 35% of that fee thanks to a sell-on clause inserted when he joined the French club, giving Old Trafford a significant financial boost from a player no longer in their plans.
United have also strengthened their midfield. Youri Tielemans has completed a move from Aston Villa after the club triggered the £35 million release clause in his contract. The Belgian, who spent three years at Villa Park and played a key role in their Europa League triumph last season, now steps into a United side desperate for control and experience in the centre of the pitch.
In the women’s game, London City Lionesses have made a statement of intent by signing former OL Lyonnais striker Kadidiatou Diani. The 31-year-old joins on a three-year contract for around £500,000, a sizeable fee in the women’s market and a clear sign of ambition.
United, Milan and others circle midfield and goalkeeping targets
Back at the top end of the European game, some of the sport’s biggest institutions are probing possibilities that could define their seasons.
Manchester United are discussing a potential approach for Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga, according to Fabrizio Romano. For now, the Frenchman’s preference is to remain at the Bernabéu, and Madrid have given no indication they want to sell. United’s interest, though, underlines their search for a long-term midfield cornerstone.
AC Milan are leading the race for Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, say TEAMtalk, which would open another significant gap in Arteta’s forward line if the Brazilian departs.
In Spain, Real Sociedad and Real Betis are tracking Southampton forward Leo Scienza, previously linked with Tottenham Hotspur and Everton, as LaLiga clubs hunt value in the English market.
Ajax, never shy about targeting big names in goal, remain hopeful of signing Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-André ter Stegen, according to Mike Verweij. That would be one of the most audacious moves of the summer if it ever advanced beyond optimism.
Juventus reshuffle continues: David and Vicario in focus
Juventus’ rebuild stretches beyond Balogun.
Tuttosport reports that Paris FC are interested in a €30 million move for Juventus and Canada international striker Jonathan David, a fee that would test the French club’s resolve to spend big and offer Juve more room to manoeuvre.
In midfield, Douglas Luiz is open to a switch to Everton, according to Football Insider, another sign that Juventus’ engine room could look very different by the end of August.
Between the posts, the Bianconeri are adjusting their plans. After struggling to reach an agreement with Aston Villa for Emiliano Martínez, they are set to refocus on Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, says Gazzetta dello Sport. The Italian would represent a more attainable target and a cleaner fit for Serie A’s financial realities.
Elsewhere: Palace, Roma, Celtic all active
Across Europe, the mid-tier clubs are trying to strike early.
Crystal Palace are interested in Arsenal midfielder Christian Nørgaard, reports the Daily Mail, as they search for more steel and structure in the middle of the pitch.
In Serie A, AS Roma are lining up a move for West Ham winger Crysencio Summerville, according to Corriere dello Sport, in a bid to inject pace and directness into their wide areas.
At Manchester United, goalkeeper Radek Vitek is keen to leave amid interest from Celtic, says Football Insider, chasing regular minutes that are unlikely to arrive at Old Trafford.
Al Nassr and Al Hilal are looking at Barcelona midfielder Marc Casado, Sport reports, as Saudi Arabia’s top clubs continue to scan Europe for younger profiles. Sporting CP, for their part, are not currently considering a deal for Barcelona winger Roony Bardghji despite reports linking them, A Bola claims.
The pieces are moving, the numbers are climbing, and the pressure is building. With strikers at a premium and goalkeepers suddenly in vogue, which club blinks first in a market that rewards boldness and punishes hesitation?
