Jaissle Provides Injury Update as Newcastle Plans Transfers

Newcastle United may have lost 3-1 to Everton in Edinburgh, but Matthias Jaissle walked away from the pre-season friendly with something far more important than a result: clarity on his injured core.

The head coach revealed that Fabian Schär is closing in on a return, with the experienced defender on the brink of rejoining full team training after being out since January.

"He's on the way back now," Jaissle said, sounding genuinely encouraged despite the scoreline. "Hopefully in the next days he will be included in the team training, and then we need to see if he gets some minutes already in the weekend."

That timeline would mark a significant step for Schär, whose leadership and composure at the back have been badly missed. Jaissle’s hint about possible minutes this weekend underlines how close the Swiss international now is to pulling on the shirt again.

Livramento and Miley not far behind

The good news did not stop there.

Tino Livramento and Lewis Miley are also edging towards a return, with both players tracking a similar schedule to Schär as they work through the final stages of their rehabilitation.

"A bit of the same, I would say, like with Fabian," Jaissle explained. "Also we're hoping that in the next days they can be integrated in the team sessions, and hopefully also will get some minutes then."

For a squad that was stretched brutally at times last season, the prospect of Livramento’s energy and Miley’s maturity in midfield coming back into the mix offers a timely lift as pre-season ramps up.

Transfers still on the agenda

Injured players returning is one thing. New faces are another.

Jaissle made it clear he expects more business before the transfer window closes, even if he had no interest in playing out negotiations in public.

"I will be always consistent with my approach," he said. "We handle these things internally, we are aware of what we need, and as you know, there's still some time."

The message was simple: key players are on their way back, and reinforcements are likely to follow. With Schär, Livramento and Miley nearing the pitch again, Newcastle’s pre-season is starting to look a lot more like a platform than a patch-up job.
