Jacob Ramsey Rescues Newcastle United in Dramatic 2-2 Draw

Jacob Ramsey stepped off the bench and dragged Newcastle United to a point, his late equaliser salvaging a 2-2 draw with Bournemouth on a nervy afternoon at St James’ Park.

The hosts trailed twice, rocked by Marcus Tavernier and then an own goal, but moments of quality from Harvey Barnes and Ramsey bailed them out. Here’s how the players measured up.

• Lukas Hornicek – 5
  Unlucky with the second goal, the ball cannoning off the post and back onto him before crossing the line. Still, there were a couple of uncertain moments and miscommunication at the back that kept the tension high.
• Amar Dedic – 4
  Started with real purpose, bombing forward and looking a threat in wide areas. The problem came the other way. Caught out defensively for both Bournemouth goals, his afternoon became a balancing act between risk and reward. His saving grace: the cross for Ramsey’s equaliser.
• Malick Thiaw – 5
  Wore the armband again in Dan Burn’s absence but endured a harsh moment when Alex Scott’s cross deflected off him and looped into the bottom corner. Made some solid interventions, yet that own goal will linger.
• Sven Botman – 5
  His poor clearance opened the door for Tavernier’s opener. Recovered with a couple of big blocks to deny Evanilson, but this was a performance that mixed authority with anxiety.
• Lewis Hall – 6
  Hooked at half-time in this fixture back in April, he stood up better this time. Dealt more calmly with Rayan and avoided the chaos that swallowed him in the spring.
• Nico Gonzalez – 5
  Couldn’t replicate the spark of his standout debut against Tottenham Hotspur. Lost his duel with Tavernier in the build-up to Bournemouth’s second and only half-blocked Scott’s effort before the first. Flickers of quality, but too many loose edges.
• Lewis Miley – 5
  Full of promise at 20, yet this was a lesson in Premier League midfield combat. Never quite got control, his passing below its usual crisp standard as Bournemouth’s engine room squeezed him.
• Anthony Elanga – 5
  Agitated early by decisions going against him and never really escaped Adrien Truffert’s grip. Tried to stretch the game but found little joy.
• Joe Willock – 5
  Effort never dipped. Pressed, chased, threw himself into blocks. Nearly levelled with a header and attacked the box with intent, but the decisive moment wouldn’t fall for him.
• Harvey Barnes – 7
  When Newcastle wobbled, he steadied them. Their first shot on target was a beauty, Barnes curling in a stunning strike to drag his side back into it. Often left irritated by failed moves, yet always looks like he’s one touch away from something big. Today, he was.
• Yoane Wissa – 5
  Looked more at home as a number 10 than as a central striker. Dropped deep repeatedly to knit play together and showed real persistence to dig out a cross for Willock’s big chance. Influence flickered rather than burned.

• Matias Fernandez-Pardo (on 63, Willock) – 6
  Roared onto the pitch for his debut and responded with energy. Won a free-kick quickly and snapped into challenges, eager to make an impression.
• Jacob Ramsey – 7
  The moment belonged to him. Arrived when Newcastle needed a saviour and delivered, timing his run and finish perfectly to rescue a point.
• Jacob Murphy (on 77, Elanga) – 6
  Brought fresh legs and direct running on the flank, helping pin Bournemouth back late on.

  Helped spark Tavernier’s opener with a nudge into Scott’s path. At 35, he still competes hard, dealing with most of what came down his side despite the occasional test.

  Assured and tidy. Already looks a key figure for Marco Rose, reading danger well and rarely flustered.
• Antonio Silva – 6
  Took a painful blow to the head from Elanga’s shoulder but shook it off and dug in. Strong in the duels and stuck to his task.
• Adrien Truffert – 7
  Outstanding for long spells. Kept the in-form Elanga quiet and then drove at Dedic with purpose, turning defence into attack and setting the tone down the left.
• Tyler Adams – 7
  First competitive start under Rose and he played like he wants to keep the shirt. Could have closed Barnes down quicker for the goal, but his overall control and bite in midfield made a strong case for a regular place.
• Alex Scott – 8
  The conductor. At the heart of both Bournemouth goals, his passing and vision carved open spaces Newcastle struggled to plug. Influenced the game from first whistle to last.
• Rayan – 5
  Nowhere near as dangerous as on his last visit to St James’ Park. Drifted in and out, prompting an animated response from Rose on the touchline.
• Marcus Tavernier – 7
  Sniffed out the opener with sharp anticipation and has now scored in three straight trips to this ground. Could easily have had more on another day. A constant menace when he found pockets of space.
• Justin Kluivert – 7
  Always willing to take risks. Let fly from 35 yards to help create the second goal and repeatedly unsettled Newcastle’s back line with his direct running.
• Evanilson – 6
  Locked in a physical contest with Botman all afternoon. Missed a couple of decent chances but never stopped working, occupying defenders and opening lanes for runners.

  Slotted into midfield and helped Bournemouth see out what looked like a winning position until Ramsey struck.
