Inter Milan Signs Curtis Jones for $40 Million
Inter Milan have struck a $40 million agreement to sign Liverpool midfielder Curtis Jones, prising the academy product away from Anfield as he enters what should be the prime of his career.
Multiple outlets, including The Athletic, ESPN and Sky Sports, reported the deal on Thursday. Jones, 25, had just one year left on his Liverpool contract, a clock that clearly helped push negotiations to a conclusion.
Transfer Fee: $40 million
Anfield loses one of its own. Jones made his senior debut for the Reds in 2019 and went on to become a regular part of the first‑team squad. Across 228 appearances, he produced 22 goals and 22 assists, a steady return from a player often asked to adapt to different roles in midfield.
Last Season Performance
Last season, he featured heavily. Jones played 49 times in all competitions in 2025-26, finishing with three goals and three assists. Not spectacular numbers, but enough to keep him in the frame as a trusted option in a squad competing on multiple fronts.
Then came the first hint of change. Jones did not feature in Liverpool’s last two pre-season friendlies, both Sunday outings against Como and Monaco. Officially, there was no dramatic explanation. The omission, though, now looks like the early sign that his Anfield chapter was closing.
Liverpool's Next Steps
Liverpool press on without him. They begin their Premier League campaign away to Newcastle on Sunday, with kick-off at 11:30 a.m. EDT in Newcastle upon Tyne, England. A new season, a reshaped midfield, and a notable gap where a homegrown player once stood.
Inter's Ambitions
Inter, meanwhile, add another piece to a squad built to dominate domestically and push deep in Europe. They open their Serie A season at San Siro on Saturday, hosting Monza at 12:30 p.m. The expectation will be clear: a $40 million signing in the heart of midfield is not one for the margins.
