Hibs Seek Home Revival Against Kilmarnock

Hibs’ home form is on the floor, but David Gray isn’t panicking.

Five straight Scottish Premiership defeats at Easter Road, no home league win since April, and Kilmarnock arriving on Tuesday night under the lights. The numbers look grim. Gray isn’t buying the story they tell.

That last home league victory? A 3-0 cruise against Kilmarnock, the very side returning to Leith this week. Since then, Easter Road has turned from comfort blanket to problem area: losses to Hearts twice, Motherwell twice and Celtic have shredded the aura of a difficult away day.

Gray, though, is clinging to performance over perception.

“Big chance here, two home games to get into this international break in a really strong position,” the head coach said, already eyeing Aberdeen’s visit on Saturday after Kilmarnock. Two matches. Same pitch. A chance to flip the mood.

He insists the recent scorelines don’t tell the full story of Hibs’ displays.

“There have been some really positive performances at home. It’s definitely in us,” he argued, pushing back against the narrative that his side crumble in front of their own fans.

The scrutiny is inevitable. Five defeats in a row at home will do that. But Gray is not interested in selective data.

“You can find a stat to drive whatever narrative you’re looking for,” he said. “I look at them all in isolation, in games. The only stat, the only thing that matters, is that score in the top corner of the screen when it’s on the telly.”

That scoreboard has hurt Hibs recently. Gray knows it has to change, and quickly.

“For us to be successful, you need strong home form and we’ve got a chance, with back-to-back games, to try and put that right.”

Easter Road now waits to see if this is just a blip in the numbers – or the moment a season bends one way or the other.
