Harry Kane Open to Bayern Munich Contract Talks

Harry Kane says he is prepared to sit down with Bayern Munich and open talks over a new deal, with the England captain heading into the final year of his contract in Germany.

The 33-year-old striker, who joined Bayern from Tottenham Hotspur for £86.4m in August 2023, has 12 months left on the four-year agreement he signed on arrival. The club now faces a familiar modern dilemma: lock in their star early, or risk uncertainty around a player they simply cannot afford to lose.

Kane sounds in no mood for drama.

"We obviously said we wanted to talk after the World Cup and after my holiday," he explained. "So I'm not sure exactly when, but they'll start this week, next week... we'll start those talks.

"Like I've said before, we're calm, I think they're calm with the situation.

"Obviously now is the time to start talking, because there's only a year left. That's important. But both sides are relaxed, and I'm pretty sure there'll be some talks this week or next week."

A season of dominance

Relaxed is a luxury Kane has earned. Last season he delivered the kind of numbers that reshape a club’s expectations.

He scored 61 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions as Vincent Kompany’s side completed a league and cup double, underlining his status as the centrepiece of Bayern’s attack. In the Bundesliga alone, Kane has been relentless: 98 goals in 94 games across three campaigns, with three straight Bundesliga Golden Boot awards to show for it.

For a player once defined by near-misses at Tottenham, the honours board now tells a very different story.

World Cup records and Ballon d’Or talk

His form has travelled with him onto the biggest stage. At the 2026 World Cup, Kane struck six times for England, becoming the nation’s all-time leading World Cup scorer with 14 goals in 18 appearances.

That body of work has pushed him firmly into the conversation for the 2026 Ballon d’Or. His name sits among the favourites, and this time the numbers back up the noise.

Kane, though, is doing his best to push the individual chatter to the background.

"The Ballon d'Or is as big as it gets, from an individual point of view," he said. "I know I had a great season last season, but the focus is on this new season.

"The Ballon d'Or's not in my hands. I've done what I can do in terms of putting in the performances. It's now down to votes and other people and the media - stuff I can't control - so we'll see what happens.

"Obviously, it would be amazing if it was to happen. But ultimately, it's still two or three months away before that's decided so it's not something that's at the front of my mind right now."

Bayern’s next big decision

For Bayern, the equation is simple but significant. Kane is their guarantee of goals, their reference point, their global star. Letting the final year of his deal tick away without resolution would invite speculation the club can do without.

Kane, for now, sounds settled, focused and open to staying. The talks he expects “this week or next” will say plenty about how long Bayern plan to build around him — and how many more records he intends to break in Munich red.
