Jamal Musiala Addresses Health Concerns After Collapsing on Pitch
Jamal Musiala has revealed he is dealing with “treatable absence seizures” after collapsing on the pitch for the second time in four days, but insists there is no long-term threat to his health and that he intends to keep playing.
The Bayern Munich and Germany winger went down just eight minutes after coming on as a substitute in Tuesday night’s friendly against FC Heidenheim, echoing a worrying scene from Saturday’s game against RB Leipzig. On both occasions, he suddenly fell to the turf, prompting immediate concern from team-mates, staff and supporters.
This time, Musiala chose to address the situation head-on.
In a detailed Instagram post, the 23-year-old moved quickly to calm fears and explain the diagnosis that sits behind the incidents.
“First things first, I am doing well. I am incredibly grateful for your messages and your support!”
he wrote, before outlining that he has been diagnosed with brief, temporary – but, crucially, treatable – absence seizures caused by a neurological dysfunction.
Those seizures, he explained, can trigger exactly the kind of collapses seen in the Leipzig and Heidenheim friendlies. They look shocking. Musiala knows that. Yet he stressed that, for now, they have become a managed part of his daily life.
He underlined that he is under “excellent medical care”, with FC Bayern and his close circle around him, and that specialists have assured him there is “no further health risk involved”.
That medical green light has shaped his next step. Musiala made it clear the decision to continue playing has been his, taken “in close consultation and regular contact with the experts”, and that he has “taken full responsibility” for it.
With neurologists’ clearance, he intends to do what he believes helps his recovery most: live normally and keep pursuing his passion for football, chasing more victories and titles with Bayern.
The tone of his message was strikingly upbeat. He said he feels “very positive” and “on the right track”, while asking supporters to understand both the nature of his condition and his wish to keep the matter largely private, shared only with his inner circle, the club and medical staff.
The images of Musiala collapsing twice in quick succession will linger. His response, though, draws a firm line: a clear diagnosis, a treatment plan, and a player determined to carry on at the heart of Bayern’s ambitions.
