Harding Women's Soccer Falls to Washburn 2-0

SEARCY, Ark. — For 45 minutes on Sunday, Harding did what it has done all season: refused to break.

Another match, another scoreless first half. Five games into the 2026 campaign, every Harding women's soccer contest has gone to the interval locked at 0-0. The Lady Bisons’ defensive discipline held again at the Stevens Soccer Complex, this time against an unbeaten Washburn side that arrived intent on testing that resolve.

Washburn came after them early. The Ichabods pushed numbers forward, probed down the flanks, and forced Harding to absorb long spells without the ball. Harding’s back line and goalkeeper answered each question in the opening 45 minutes, turning away chance after chance to keep the game level at the break.

Second Half

The stalemate didn’t survive much longer.

Just under 12 minutes into the second half, Washburn finally found a way through, striking in the 57th minute to seize a 1-0 lead. Before Harding could settle, the visitors hit again. One minute later, in the 58th, the Ichabods doubled their advantage, a quick one-two punch that effectively decided the non-conference matchup and sealed a 2-0 road win.

Harding tried to respond on the counter, looking to use transition to unsettle Washburn’s backline. The Lady Bisons generated chances and stayed aggressive in the attacking half but couldn’t find the finish that might have dragged them back into the contest.

Washburn outshot Harding 16-13 overall, with both teams recording eight attempts after halftime, a sign that Harding did not fade quietly even after the two-goal blow.

Now the focus turns to conference play. Harding, sitting at 1-2-2, heads to Ada, Oklahoma, on Wednesday to open its Great American Conference schedule at East Central, with kickoff set for 3 p.m.

The defensive foundation is clearly in place. The question now is whether the goals will follow as the games start to count even more.
