Gabriel Gudmundsson Returns for Leeds United After Injury
Gabriel Gudmundsson’s return to competitive action for Leeds United has been a long time coming. For the first time since April, the 27-year-old pulled on a Whites shirt in a meaningful game, stepping back into the fray in the 1-1 draw away at Brighton.
For Gudmundsson, just getting back on the pitch marked a small victory in a difficult year. A hamstring injury stalled his momentum and kept him sidelined for months, but he was quick to highlight the work done behind the scenes to get him back.
Speaking to BBC Radio Leeds, he praised the club’s medical staff for guiding him through the long rehabilitation process, then turned his attention to the challenge Leeds had just faced.
“I feel Brighton is a difficult place to come,” he said. “Last season we lost here quite badly, so I think we are doing some good stuff.”
That result a year ago still lingers in the memory. This time, though, Daniel Farke’s side showed a different edge. Leeds left the south coast with a point, their unbeaten start to the season intact and their resilience beginning to look like a habit rather than a phase.
Four games played. No defeats. A squad slowly knitting together, and now one more option back in the mix.
Next up is Chelsea in the Carabao Cup third round on Wednesday, a tie that will test just how far this Leeds team have come under Farke’s guidance. Gudmundsson believes the foundations are only just being laid.
“The process starts now, and it is going to get better and better for us,” he said.
For a player finally out of the treatment room and back in the fight, that sounds less like a cliché and more like a promise.
