Key Updates to Fantasy Premier League for the 2026-27 Season
The Fantasy Premier League (FPL) has kicked off for the 2026-27 season, introducing several updates that affect player prices, positions, and gameplay features. These changes aim to improve team selection, live scoring, and price tracking.
Help with Selecting Your Starting Squad
Choosing your initial team within a £100m budget across 15 spots can be daunting. This year, FPL offers assistance by asking a few questions about your preferred club and style, then suggesting a starting squad tailored for you. You can still make any adjustments up until the gameweek one deadline.
Real-Time Mini-League Updates
Mini-leagues are a major draw for many managers. Instead of waiting until all matches finish to see league standings, tables will now update live during games. Bonus points earned from the 20th minute onward will also appear in real time rather than after confirmation.
Introducing the Price-Change Predictor
A new tool predicts how likely a player's value is to rise or fall at midnight the next day. It categorizes predictions as very likely to rise, likely to rise, unlikely to change, likely to drop, or very likely to drop, helping managers anticipate market moves.
Adjustments to Bonus Points and Timing
Following last season's overhaul, bonus point rules have been fine-tuned. Tackled players no longer lose points, benefiting attacking midfielders who often drew heavy challenges. For defenders, earning bonus points from clearances, blocks, and interceptions requires more actions now, reducing defensive scoring dominance.
Goalkeeper save scoring has changed: all saves award two BPS points regardless of shot location, removing extra points for outside penalty area saves. Goalkeepers gain an extra BPS point for denying big chances, and saving penalties now gives seven BPS points plus the big chance bonus, keeping the total similar.
The cutoff for finalizing bonus points has shifted from one hour post-match to 09:00 UK time the next day, allowing detailed data review before awarding points.
Features Carried Over from Last Season
- Chips usage: Each chip can be used twice — once before midseason and once after gameweek 20.
- Chips available: Bench Boost, Free Hit, Triple Captain, and Wildcard.
- Defensive contribution points (Defcon): Outfield players earn bonus points based on defensive actions, with midfielders and forwards awarded two points for every 12 actions, defenders for every 10.
Player Price Updates and Position Changes
- Erling Haaland remains the most expensive player, rising to £15.5m.
- Bruno Fernandes saw his price jump from £9m to £12m after delivering a Premier League record 21 assists last season.
- Gabriel from Arsenal increased from £6m to £8m, making him one of the priciest defenders ever in FPL.
- Eleven players switched positions this season:
- Myles Lewis-Skelly (Arsenal), Lamare Bogarde (Aston Villa), Keane Lewis-Potter (Brentford), Patrick Dorgu (Manchester United) moved from defender to midfielder.
- Eli Junior Kroupi (Bournemouth) moved from forward to midfielder.
- Mats Wieffer (Brighton), Rio Cardines (Crystal Palace), Ryan Sessegnon (Fulham), Eric Moreira (Nottingham Forest) switched from midfielder to defender.
- Omar Marmoush (Manchester City) and Georginio Rutter (Brighton) moved from midfielder to forward.
