On a humid night in Portugal, the Manchester City striker once again treated the Champions League like his own private scoring range, striking twice in a 2-0 win at FC Porto to open the league phase with a statement.
He needed two chances. He buried both.
Haaland broke the deadlock in the 47th minute, then returned in stoppage time to slam the door in the 91st. Two goals, three points, and another layer added to a record that is starting to look absurd even by modern standards.
Haaland joins Aguero in Europe’s elite club

Across all competitions, Aguero’s 260 goals for City have long felt untouchable, a monument to a golden era. Haaland is already chipping away at it.
The Norway striker sits on 167 goals in 203 appearances for the club. The volume is staggering, the pace even more so. He is not just on course to catch Aguero; he is attacking the record like it is a loose ball in the six-yard box.

Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca acknowledged the strain.
“It’s not easy for Erling or for any of the players that play for club and international teams,” he said before the game. “I think it is normal that you see these players start to be tired. So, it’s correct to give them some rest. It can be one game out or one week away.
“It depends on which moment we are in but the priority is to allow the players to be good and happy. When you see them tired the risk of injury increases, and we need players who are 100 percent.”
On this evidence, Haaland at something less than 100 percent is still too much for most defences.

The goals in Porto came just days after another milestone. Over the weekend, Haaland scored his 300th club goal, hitting that landmark before names like Cristiano Ronaldo and Kylian Mbappe managed it in their own careers.
He had already struck twice in the week leading into the Porto tie. The brace in Portugal extends his scoring streak to three consecutive matches. Different opponents, same conclusion: if he is on the pitch, the scoreboard is in danger.
