Eiran Cashin Out for Two Months: Derby County's Setback

Derby County have suffered a significant setback with defender Eiran Cashin ruled out for around eight weeks with a calf injury.

The centre-back only returned to Pride Park at the start of the month, rejoining on loan from Brighton for the rest of the season. A product of Derby’s academy, Cashin had already racked up 144 appearances in his first spell with the club and was expected to be a key figure in their run-in.

He went straight back into the side, starting in the defeats to West Brom and Birmingham and playing almost the full 90 minutes in both matches. Then came the first warning sign. Cashin was missing from the matchday squad against Burnley.

The reason became clear when manager John Eustace spoke to BBC Radio Derby.

“Cash is out now for about eight weeks, he’s done his calf,” Eustace said.

For a Derby team trying to stabilise and push on, losing a defender with Cashin’s experience and connection to the club rips out a piece of their backbone. The question now is simple and stark: who steps up to fill that void while one of Pride Park’s own watches from the sidelines?
