Daniel Maldini Involved in Early Morning Car Crash in Milan

Daniel Maldini walked off the pitch in Bergamo on Saturday night as Cagliari’s match-winner. By dawn on Sunday, he was at the centre of a frightening car crash on the streets of Milan.

The 22-year-old forward, fresh from scoring the decisive penalty in Cagliari’s victory over Atalanta on September 12, was involved in a collision at around 5:15 a.m. at the junction of Via Tolentino and Via Francesco Caracciolo, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport.

What began as a two-car collision quickly turned into a three-vehicle mess. Initial reports state that a car travelling along Via Caracciolo struck Maldini’s vehicle as it emerged from Piazza Caneva. The impact came on the front left of Maldini’s car and the front right of the other vehicle.

The force of that collision then sent the other car careening into a parked Mercedes SUV, which was sitting in a residents’ parking bay.

The scene drew a rapid response. Emergency services dispatched three ambulances and a medical car. Six people suffered minor injuries, with five taken to hospital for checks.

Maldini was transported to Fatebenefratelli Hospital as a precaution. He underwent a brief examination and was quickly cleared.

“After a brief checkup with a code blue at the emergency room, Daniel was immediately released and returned home. He is in good health,” his lawyer, Danilo Buongiorno, said. “Daniel is fine and has not suffered any injuries, let alone serious ones.”

Investigation ongoing, focus back on football

Local authorities are still piecing together the exact dynamics of the crash. Early indications suggest Maldini’s car failed to yield the right of way as it came out from Piazza Caneva, triggering the initial impact that set off the chain reaction.

For Maldini, the scare appears to have ended with shock rather than physical damage. No serious injuries, no hospital stay, no long recovery.

With the legal and medical picture now clearer, the forward can turn his attention back to the pitch. Cagliari expect him to rejoin his team-mates in training as they build towards their next Serie A fixtures, the club hoping the only drama around Maldini from here on comes inside the penalty area.
