Como Ties Roberta Picchi to Long-Term Deal After Breast Cancer Diagnosis

Como have tied forward Roberta Picchi to a new long-term contract after the 34-year-old was diagnosed with breast cancer, turning a moment of personal shock into a public show of faith.

The club, preparing for their first-ever season in women’s Serie A, confirmed that Picchi’s deal now runs until the end of the 2027-28 campaign. They described the extension as part of their “continued commitment” to a player who helped drag them into the top flight and now faces a very different kind of battle.

Picchi is set to begin cancer treatment, with Como’s medical staff working alongside the specialists overseeing her care. The message from the club was clear: she will not go through this alone.

“Everyone at Como 1907 is alongside Roberta and will give her and her family all the support they need during the months ahead,” read a club statement, which also called for privacy as she focuses on treatment and recovery.

On the pitch, Picchi was central to Como’s surge last season. She featured in the side that stormed to the Serie B title, finishing 11 points clear of Lumezzane to secure a historic first promotion to the top division of Italian women’s football.

Off the pitch, she addressed the diagnosis with striking clarity and defiance. “Nothing should ever be taken for granted, and I feel fortunate,” she wrote on social media. “It’s time to play my match, but I’ll be back even more determined.”
