Christensen Injury Concerns for Barcelona Ahead of Tough Schedule

Barcelona’s defensive plans have taken an early hit under Hansi Flick, with Andreas Christensen facing a spell out after limping off against Sevilla at the Ramón Sánchez-Pizjuán.

The Denmark international was withdrawn around the hour mark, cutting a frustrated figure as he headed straight to the bench. Any hope that it was precautionary vanished after the final whistle.

“He'll be out for several weeks. It's a muscle injury. He'll have more tests tomorrow,” Flick told reporters, delivering a blunt assessment of the centre-back’s condition.

The immediate consequence is clear: Christensen will withdraw from the Denmark squad for their upcoming Nations League fixtures over the international break. For national team coach Kasper Hjulmand, it’s a key defender gone. For Barcelona, it’s a nervous wait.

The timing could hardly be worse. Once club football returns next month, Barça walk straight into a demanding run that will test both Flick’s ideas and his squad depth.

La Liga resumes with games against Getafe, Real Betis and then the first Clásico of the season against Real Madrid. Around that, the Champions League brings Galatasaray and Paris Saint-Germain, two fixtures with no margin for defensive uncertainty.

Christensen does at least have a window to recover before that sequence hits full speed, but “several weeks” offers no guarantees. With the calendar tightening and the stakes rising, Flick now has to juggle his back line just as Barcelona’s season begins to sharpen into focus.
