Crystal Palace have been rocked by the news that Chadi Riad will miss the rest of the season after tearing his anterior cruciate ligament, a brutal setback for the Morocco international just as his career at Selhurst Park seemed to be gathering real momentum.

Medical tests this week confirmed the worst. According to the Daily Mail, scans revealed a torn cruciate ligament after Riad was forced off on a stretcher in the 70th minute of Palace’s match against Everton. One awkward moment, one challenge, and his campaign is gone.

For Riad, this is horribly familiar territory. It is the second serious knee injury of his career, another long spell on the sidelines looming after he had already endured a significant lay-off in his first season with the club.
