Canadian Wildfires Delay Lewandowski and Müller's Anticipated Reunion

Chicago Fire’s home clash with Vancouver Whitecaps at Soldier Field was called off because of hazardous air quality in the area, pushing back Lewandowski’s highly anticipated debut and shelving, for now, his first on‑field reunion with his old Bayern Munich accomplice. For Bayern supporters, it was a jolt of nostalgia. For eight seasons, from 2014 to 2022, the pair terrorised Bundesliga defences in a partnership that defined an era in Munich. Müller, the space‑finding schemer, teed up 42 league goals for Lewandowski. The No 9, in turn, plundered 344 goals in all competitions for the German champions, turning their connection into a production line of trophies.
Those days are gone, but the relationship clearly isn’t. Since Lewandowski’s move to Barcelona, their bond has lived on in messages, reunions and now, unexpectedly, in the United States, where they stand on opposite sides as new domestic rivals.
The romance of the reunion now has to give way to reality. Both clubs return to the grind of their MLS campaigns, the postponement an unwelcome break in rhythm as the season tightens.
Vancouver's Challenge
Vancouver, well‑placed in the Western Conference, must hold their nerve. The table is bunching, the margins shrinking, and the Whitecaps’ recent form has given them a platform they cannot afford to waste.
Chicago's Challenge
Chicago’s challenge is different but just as delicate. Fire’s coaching staff now have to recalibrate Lewandowski’s launch.
