Mohamed Salah's Future and Premier League Transfer Insights
Mohamed Salah’s future, Marcus Rashford’s stance, Liverpool’s rebuild and Manchester United’s midfield search all collided on a busy day in the market – with several Premier League clubs quietly trying to reshape the spine of their seasons before a ball is kicked.
Salah in limbo, but not in a hurry
Mohamed Salah’s agent, Remy Abbas, has drawn a clear line around the Liverpool great’s next move: no circus, no empty negotiations.
“We still do not know where Mohamed will play next season but we may know very soon,” he said, before stressing that they will not entertain clubs Salah has no desire to join “just for the sake of noise.”
It leaves Liverpool and the wider market on edge. No clarity yet, but no appetite for a drawn-out saga either. When the decision comes, it will come quickly.
Rashford says no – repeatedly
Across at Old Trafford, Marcus Rashford has made his position just as firm, if not as public.
According to The Athletic, the forward has turned down a series of offers to leave Manchester United this summer, some of them richer than his current deal. Money, clearly, is not the driving force here.
Rashford is contracted until 2028, yet has not played for United since 2024. That gap between commitment on paper and minutes on the pitch is stark. Still, he is choosing to stay and fight for his place rather than take a lucrative exit route.
The market has tested his resolve. So far, he has answered with a flat refusal.
Liverpool redraw the flanks
While Salah’s future hangs in the air, Liverpool are quietly building out the rest of their squad.
Anfield Watch report that Djed Spence has been added to the club’s list of potential summer targets as they seek another full-back before the new Premier League season. Spence, who has caught the eye with England at the World Cup, is also on Everton’s radar, setting up the possibility of a Merseyside tug of war for his signature.
Out wide, Liverpool are also casting the net beyond the headline names. TEAMtalk claim the club are weighing up a move for Bournemouth winger Rayan as an alternative to Bradley Barcola and Michael Olise.
PSG are said to want £128m for Barcola. Bayern Munich, for their part, value Olise at around £170m, even though the winger has reportedly asked to leave. Those numbers drag any negotiation into the realm of the absurd.
Rayan, by contrast, sits among “several names” on Liverpool’s list – a more realistic option as the club tries to refresh its attacking options without detonating the budget.
Newcastle move on from the obvious
Newcastle United are also looking for value in a tricky market.
Sussex World report that the Magpies are considering a move for Brighton goalkeeper Carl Rushworth. The 23-year-old impressed on loan at Coventry City last season and has been strongly linked with a return to the Sky Blues.
Newcastle, though, are said to be ready to test Brighton’s resolve and Coventry’s hopes by stepping in. If they move decisively, they could hijack a deal that once looked straightforward.
Villa close in on Joao Gomes
At Villa Park, the work is more advanced.
ESPN report that Aston Villa have agreed a deal worth around £34m for Wolves midfielder Joao Gomes. The Brazilian is set to undergo a medical after leaving Wolves’ training camp in Portugal to complete the formalities.
It is a bold, targeted move. Villa want more control and bite in midfield as they prepare for another demanding campaign, and Gomes fits that brief. The fee underlines how highly they rate him.
Ipswich eye Fatawu as Leicester reset
Ipswich Town, newly promoted and ambitious, are also dipping into the Premier League pool.
According to The Telegraph, they have made an approach for Leicester City winger Abdul Fatawu. The Ghanaian forward is widely expected to leave the King Power Stadium after Leicester’s relegation to League One, a drop that has triggered a natural exodus of top talent.
For Ipswich, Fatawu would be a statement signing: pace, directness, and a player with a point to prove at a higher level.
United’s rejected swap and a new midfield target
Manchester United’s name inevitably sits at the centre of several stories.
Mundo Deportivo report that United proposed signing Barcelona midfielder Marc Bernal in a potential swap deal for Marcus Rashford. The expectation, at one stage, was that Rashford would join the Catalan club on a permanent basis.
Barcelona, though, chose a different path, opting to sign Anthony Gordon instead. With Rashford’s release clause now expired, any future move would require a full, likely complex negotiation with United.
Inside Old Trafford, the focus is also on reinforcing midfield. TEAMtalk say United are internally discussing a move for Fulham’s Sander Berge and see him as one of their key summer targets.
If he arrives, Berge would become their fifth signing of the window after Andrey Santos, Youri Tielemans, Karl Darlow and Cristian Orozco – a clear attempt to rebuild the core of the side with a blend of experience and potential.
From Salah’s carefully managed uncertainty to Rashford’s quiet defiance, from Liverpool’s wide rebuild to Villa’s midfield upgrade, the market is moving fast. The real question now is simple: which of these early bets will still look smart when the season’s pressure starts to bite?
