Besiktas Target Antony for Bold Market Move
Besiktas are making a bold move in the market – and the name at the top of their list is Antony.
The Istanbul giants, still stung after missing out on Mohamed Salah to Trabzonspor, have turned their full attention to the former Manchester United winger, according to Turkish outlet Fanatik. Salah slipped away. Now Besiktas want a different kind of statement.
From record sale to revival
Antony’s career has already swung between extremes. In 2022 he left Ajax as their record outgoing transfer, joining Manchester United in a deal worth at least €95 million. The fee brought pressure, and the pressure brought problems. He never truly settled at Old Trafford, struggled to justify the price tag and eventually left on loan.
That spell away from Manchester opened the door to a permanent exit. Last year, Real Betis stepped in, picking him up for €22 million – a fraction of what United had paid.
Spain suited him. At Betis, Antony finally produced the kind of numbers that once made him one of Europe’s most coveted wide players: 14 goals and 10 assists in all competitions last season. Sharp on the ball, decisive in the final third, he rebuilt his reputation in La Liga.
Betis open to talks
Despite that resurgence, the door is not shut on a sale. Reports in Spain suggest Betis are ready to listen if a serious offer lands on the table. The club know his value has climbed again, and with his contract running until mid-2030, they hold a strong hand.
Right now, Antony’s market value is estimated at around €40 million. For Besiktas, that figure is a hurdle, not a stop sign. The Super Lig side are determined to test Betis’ resolve and explore every possible structure to make a deal work.
They also know they are not alone. Clubs from across Europe’s top five leagues are tracking the Brazilian after his standout season in Seville. Any hesitation, and Besiktas could be overtaken.
A statement for Istanbul
For Besiktas, this is about more than just adding another winger. It is about intent.
The club want proven quality and big-game experience before the new campaign kicks off. Antony offers both. A player who has lived the weight of a huge fee, played for Manchester United, delivered in La Liga and still has his prime years ahead of him.
If he arrives, the right flank suddenly becomes one of the most competitive areas in the squad. Antony would battle with former Ajax team-mate Václav Cerny for that spot, bringing pace, goals and a familiar rivalry to Istanbul’s training ground.
Besiktas are prepared to push hard before the window closes. The next few days will be decisive as they try to turn admiration into an official bid and force Betis into a decision.
One question now hangs over this saga: can the Super Lig contenders turn Antony’s Spanish revival into the marquee signing that reshapes their season?
