Ayoub El Kaabi Faces Long Layoff After Leg Injury

Olympiacos have been dealt a brutal blow, with star striker Ayoub El Kaabi set for a long spell on the sidelines after suffering a serious leg injury in the Greek Super League.

The Moroccan international fractured both the tibia and fibula in his left leg shortly before half-time in Olympiacos’s 1-1 draw with Volos in the third round of the top flight, according to Greek outlet Sportal. The incident cut short his night and, as it turns out, his season’s momentum.

The club moved quickly. Sportal reported that surgery was performed in Athens by Olympiacos doctor Christos Theos and his medical team, and that the operation “was completed successfully”.

Expected recovery time: six to seven months

Greek newspaper Protothema underlined the scale of the setback. It reported that El Kaabi is expected to be out of action for between six and seven months, a timeline that would rule him out for the bulk of the campaign. The piece stressed that the precise length of his absence will hinge on how his body reacts to treatment and the subsequent rehabilitation programme.

Sport 24 added more detail from the club’s official communication, noting that Olympiacos confirmed the procedure “was carried out smoothly” by chief doctor Christos Theos and his staff at the B. Valeriou clinic, part of the Athens Medical Centre.

The club also made it clear that the next phase has already begun. The post-surgery period is said to be unfolding according to plan, with rehabilitation starting immediately and structured around a gradual, safe and complete return to competitive football.

For Olympiacos, and for El Kaabi, the clock on that recovery has only just started ticking.
