Asencio Cleared of Video Charges but Faces Real Madrid Disciplinary Action

Asencio walked out of a Spanish courtroom on Thursday with the most serious case against him wiped away. The defender has been fully acquitted of charges linked to the non-consensual distribution of a sexually explicit video involving a woman and a 16-year-old girl.

The case, first reported in detail by ESPN, centred on a recorded sexual encounter at a Canary Islands beach club in June 2023. Asencio was never accused of filming the incident. His alleged role, and the basis of the charges, was the supposed sharing of the footage.

That accusation has now fallen apart.

Court Acquits Asencio, Co-Accused Accept Suspended Sentences

In Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, prosecutors withdrew all allegations against Asencio, prompting the court to clear him. The turning point came when the two young women featured in the video told the judge they forgave the players involved.

A court statement outlined how the proceedings closed: after hearing the victims confirm their forgiveness and the Public Prosecutor’s Office drop the case against one defendant while reducing the requested sentences for the others, the judge issued what was described as a “verdict by consent” in line with the prosecutor’s report.

Asencio walked free. His former Real Madrid youth teammates did not.

Andrés García, Ferrán Ruiz and Juan Rodríguez all pleaded guilty. Each accepted a one-year suspended prison sentence, a two-year restraining order, and a three-year ban on working with minors. The court later underlined that the ruling is final, with all parties agreeing not to appeal. The legal chapter, at least, is closed.

DUI Conviction Keeps Spotlight on Defender

Asencio’s name, though, is not leaving the headlines.

While cleared in the video case, he is now entangled in a separate matter that has triggered internal disciplinary action at Real Madrid. On Wednesday, a Spanish court convicted him of driving under the influence of alcohol. The punishment was sharp: an eight-month driving licence suspension and a €14,400 fine.

Real Madrid responded quickly, opening their own disciplinary proceedings against the defender. The legal system has had its say; now the club’s hierarchy will deliver theirs.

For José Mourinho, the situation is awkward but, for the moment, parked.

“While the proceeding is open I see him as a Real Madrid player,” the head coach said on Thursday. “He’s injured and will continue to be sidelined for a couple of weeks. That helps me not to have to deal with this problem now.”

The injury buys time. It does not erase the issue.

Injured, Under Scrutiny, and Fighting for Trust

Asencio has yet to kick a ball this season, sidelined by a muscle injury. His absence has kept him out of the matchday glare, but not out of the club’s internal spotlight.

Since stepping up to the first team at the start of the 2024–2025 campaign, he has made 80 appearances in all competitions, scored two goals and collected silverware, including the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. On the pitch, his record is steady, if unspectacular. Off it, the past months have been anything but.

Now comes the hardest part of his career.

Once fit, Asencio will not just be fighting for minutes. He will be fighting for trust — from Mourinho, from the dressing room, and from a club that has opened a formal case against him. The court has closed its file. Real Madrid have not.
