Yael Trepy in Intensive Care After Swimming Pool Incident

Yael Trepy, the young French forward on Cagliari’s books, is in intensive care in Sassari after a serious incident in a swimming pool in northern Sardinia, the Serie A club has confirmed.

The 20-year-old is being treated in hospital, with Italian media reporting that he nearly drowned on Sunday in Porto Cervo after swallowing a large quantity of water and having to be rescued. Doctors have placed him in a medically induced coma, according to those reports.

Cagliari released a brief, sober statement, confirming Trepy’s condition and stressing the club’s support for those closest to him.

“Yael Trepy is currently in intensive care at the hospital in Sassari,” the club said, adding that it remains “in close contact with the medical staff and the player’s family”. The statement also included a clear request: respect for privacy at a deeply delicate moment, with the club promising further updates “as soon as possible”.

No official details have been given on the exact circumstances of the incident.

Trepy’s situation comes just days after he was on the pitch for Cagliari. The forward started in Friday’s Coppa Italia tie against Arezzo, playing 54 minutes in a 1-0 win. It was another small step in what had been a steadily rising career curve.

Last season he broke into the first team in Serie A, scoring once in eight league appearances. Cagliari had brought him into their academy setup in 2022 from Paris-based Union Sportive Creteil, betting on his pace and attacking instincts as a long-term project.

Now that project is on hold, replaced by a far more important fight in a hospital ward in Sassari, as club and family wait for the next medical bulletin.
