Mexico Leads the Way
Mexico was the first nation to confirm its place in the Round of 32 after a tight 1-0 victory over South Korea on Thursday night. Earlier that day, South Africa and Czechia drew 1-1, which meant that the winner of the Mexico-South Korea match would take the top spot in Group A.
The game saw a goalless first half until Luis Romo capitalized on an error by South Korean goalkeeper Kim Seung-gyu, who collided with a teammate inside the box and lost possession. Romo seized the opportunity to score the decisive goal.
In the final moments, Mexico’s goalkeeper Raúl Rangel made two crucial saves to preserve the lead and deny South Korea any chance to equalize.
