Roma Confident in Retaining Manu Kone Amid Premier League Interest
Roma increasingly confident of keeping Manu Kone despite Premier League interest
Roma believe they have ridden out the storm around Manu Kone.
All summer, the midfielder’s name has been pinned to the wishlists of some of Europe’s biggest clubs. Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City have all been repeatedly linked, with reports from both England and Italy turning his future into a running transfer saga.
The latest noise centred on Manchester City. Having already lost Rodri and facing the prospect of Nico Gonzalez also departing, the Premier League champions were flagged in the British press as serious admirers of Kone, a potential solution in a reshaped midfield.
But the numbers tell a different story.
According to Corriere dello Sport, Roma are growing more and more confident that Kone will stay at the Stadio Olimpico. The message from the capital is clear: any club wanting him will have to put around €55 million on the table. Right now, that kind of move looks unlikely.
Roma did briefly open the door in June. With Financial Fair Play restrictions looming, the Giallorossi had to at least weigh up the idea of a major sale. Even then, though, no formal offers arrived from England.
The only concrete proposal came from Atletico Madrid, but their bid never came close to the valuation required to trigger a sale, especially after Kone’s standout World Cup campaign strengthened Roma’s hand.
That tournament form changed the mood. What began as a summer of uncertainty has shifted towards quiet assurance in Trigoria.
Roma now sense the market moving away from their midfielder. Manchester City, once touted as a prime contender, are described as focusing their efforts on other, even more expensive targets, with Enzo Fernandez and Ayoub Bouaddi drawing their attention.
For Kone, that leaves a different picture to the one painted in early June: less like a shop window, more like a long-term role in the heart of Roma’s project.
