Patrick Dorgu Withdraws from Denmark Squad Due to Injury, Manager Brian Riemer Faces Selection Woes
Manchester United defender Patrick Dorgu has pulled out of the Denmark national team due to injury, leaving coach Brian Riemer frustrated by an escalating problem. The young talent had to exit after limping off during Denmark's recent UEFA Nations League win.
Growing Injury Crisis Hits Danish Squad
The Danish side is struggling with multiple injuries throughout this international break. Dorgu’s departure on Sunday evening following the 2-0 triumph over Wales adds to a list of key absentees including Andreas Christensen, Alexander Bah, Albert Gronbaek, and Kasper Dolberg, all sidelined since the squad was named.
"We’re sending him home now; he won’t be ready for next week. Further tests will determine his recovery time," Riemer told Bold.
Dorgu’s Absence Weakens Denmark’s Flank Options
Riemer lamented the loss of Dorgu’s versatility on the left side, a role crucial for Denmark’s tactics. The coach revealed the squad not only lacks depth in specific positions but is also showing signs of fatigue as the remaining players shoulder heavy demands.
"I’ve never seen anything like this before. Seven or eight players who would normally be in a 23-man squad aren’t here—they’ve either gone home or didn’t come at all. Now Dorgu has gone too. It’s really frustrating," Riemer said on TV2.
Possible Replacements Considered by Denmark Coach
To address the mounting challenges, Riemer plans to call up at least one new player to strengthen the wings. Several candidates are under review, including both seasoned players and promising talents currently performing well abroad. The priority is finding someone who can quickly fit into the team and manage the pressure of international competition.
"It could be Anders Dreyer, it could be Andreas Skov Olsen who’s started strongly in Turkey, or perhaps one of the younger players," Riemer told Bold.
Rasmus Hojlund Expresses Disappointment Over Dorgu’s Injury
Striker Rasmus Hojlund shared his sympathy for Dorgu, emphasizing his importance to the squad and the setback caused by his absence.
"I think it’s a shame. He’s a big profile for us and also for my former club. If he’s out for a long time, it’s obviously disappointing," Hojlund told TV2.
