Orlando Pirates Mourn Mrs Maleshoane Elizabeth Chakane

Orlando Pirates are in mourning following the passing of Mrs Maleshoane Elizabeth “Nani” Chakane, the beloved wife of long-serving club figure Mr Franklin Chakane, on 23 June 2026.

The loss has cut deeply through the Buccaneers community. The club has called on supporters and the wider football fraternity to keep the Chakane family in their thoughts and prayers as they navigate this period of grief.

In a message of sympathy, Orlando Pirates extended heartfelt condolences to Mr Chakane, the wider Chakane family, relatives, friends, and all those whose lives were touched by Nani’s presence.

Funeral Service Details

The funeral service will take place on Thursday, 2 July 2026, at the Uniting Reformed Church of South Africa in Orlando East, Soweto. The service is scheduled to begin at 09:00. After the church proceedings, the funeral procession is expected to leave at approximately 11:00 for the burial at Nasrec Cemetery.

Mourners are being received at the family home at 1173 Jacobs Street, Protea North, Soweto, where the outpouring of support reflects just how deeply she was cherished.
