Real Madrid Eyes Olise After PSG Withdrawal

Paris steps back. Madrid moves in.

The race for Olise, one of the most coveted forwards in Europe, has taken a sharp turn, and it suits Real Madrid perfectly.

PSG walk away from the €200m table

According to Foot01, Paris Saint-Germain have pulled out of the chase, refusing to go anywhere near Bayern Munich’s €200 million valuation. For a club that once made a habit of detonating the transfer market, that is a striking change of posture.

Luis Campos and Nasser Al-Khelaifi have drawn a line. Rather than stretching their finances to land another superstar at any cost, the pair are steering PSG towards a more measured, sustainable model. Inside the club, the thinking is blunt: “it is better to look for the new Olise than Olise.”

The Neymar and Lionel Messi years left scars. Astronomical transfer fees, gigantic wages, and a constant tightrope walk with Financial Fair Play have convinced the Paris hierarchy that they cannot afford another “nightmare” saga. They do not want the “knife at the throat” again when it comes to wage structure and regulatory pressure.

Olise, who is expected to command a salary north of €20 million per year, would push those limits. So PSG are turning their gaze inward. Domestic talents such as Maghnes Akliouche and Oumar Diomande are now firmly on Luis Enrique’s radar, emblematic of a shift towards Ligue 1 prospects before their prices explode.

A Galactico for Mbappé?

While Paris steps aside, Madrid senses opportunity.

Florentino Pérez sees the London-born winger as a true “Galactico,” a player capable of elevating an already fearsome attack and, crucially, of unlocking Kylian Mbappé’s full potential at the Bernabéu. This is not a vanity signing in his eyes; it is a structural piece.

L’Equipe reports that Olise has already sounded out France team-mates Mbappé and Aurélien Tchouameni about life in Madrid. That curiosity is backed by numbers. After a campaign yielding 22 goals and 31 assists, the France international looks ready to step into the intensity and scrutiny of Spanish football.

The pressure is not only external. Olise is described as “particularly determined” to force a move to the Spanish capital. Bayern initially slammed the door on any sale. A firm stance from the player, though, has a way of rewriting the script in Bavaria.

Madrid’s money, Bayern’s wall

If any club can contemplate one of the most expensive operations in football history, it is Real Madrid. Los Blancos recently posted a record €1.161 billion in revenue and have already banked significant funds from summer sales. They are built for this type of deal.

Yet even Madrid must respect financial gravity. To fit Olise into their structure, the books may still need adjusting. That is where the future of Vinícius Júnior becomes a live question.

The Brazilian is entering the final year of his contract. According to L’Equipe, if no agreement is found, Madrid could sanction a sale to help fund the Olise move and satisfy financial requirements. Offloading one star to bring in another would be a brutal, but familiar, calculation at the top level.

For now, Bayern remain the main obstacle. They are under no illusion about Olise’s importance and are unlikely to let a key player walk without a fight. Any negotiation is expected to be long, tense, and expensive.

Two clubs, two philosophies

PSG’s withdrawal does more than clear the runway for Madrid. It underlines a philosophical split between two superclubs.

In Paris, the priority is now clear: identify the next wave of talent before it becomes unattainable. Avoid the circus, avoid the spiralling wages, avoid another all-or-nothing saga that distorts the squad and the balance sheet.

In Madrid, the calculation is different. With record revenues and a rebuilt squad, they believe they can absorb the shock of one more blockbuster signing. If they press ahead, they will do so from a position of rare financial strength, armed with a player who wants the move and a president who still believes in the power of a Galactico.

PSG have chosen to step away from the fire. Real Madrid are deciding whether to walk straight into it for a winger they believe can redefine their attack alongside Mbappé.

If Bayern finally blink, the next great transfer drama of the summer will not be about who joins the race for Olise—but who Madrid are willing to sacrifice to bring him home.
