Luka Modric Commits to AC Milan Until Mid-2027
Luka Modric, now 40, has surprised many by signing a contract extension with AC Milan, keeping him at the club until mid-2027. The Italian team confirmed this development through their official channels.
The Croatian midfielder’s previous deal ended on June 30, 2026, which meant he could have left on a free transfer. Earlier, Modric suggested he would decide his future only after the 2026 World Cup, but he has opted to stay despite approaching his 41st birthday this summer.
“Since joining, Luka has been a pivotal figure in AC Milan's midfield, sharing his experience and skills both on and off the pitch with humility and passion,” the club stated on their website.
The club described Modric as one of football’s most iconic players who will continue to wear the number 14 jersey as he aims for new milestones with Milan.
New Chapter Under Coach Rúben Amorim
Modric will remain a part of AC Milan’s evolving project under new head coach Rúben Amorim, who is leading fresh ambitions at the Rossoneri.
After a long, successful tenure at Real Madrid, Modric joined AC Milan on a free transfer in summer 2025. He quickly became a regular starter during his first season in Italy.
In 37 competitive appearances last season, the veteran midfielder scored twice and assisted three goals. He also played in all four of Croatia’s matches at the 2026 World Cup, where their campaign ended in the round of 16 against Portugal.
