Juventus Signs Guglielmo Vicario as New Goalkeeper

Juventus have their new No. 1.

The club confirmed on Tuesday the arrival of Italian goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario from Tottenham, a move designed to anchor the next phase of their rebuild between the posts.

Vicario joins on loan until 30 June 2027, Juventus announced on their official channels, giving the Bianconeri a long runway to decide whether he is the long-term answer in goal.

Born in 1996, Vicario’s path has been anything but straightforward. He grew up in the Udinese academy, then fought his way through the Italian ladder with spells at Venezia, Perugia, Cagliari and Empoli. It was at Empoli that he truly emerged, collecting 69 Serie A appearances and a reputation as one of the most reliable keepers in the league.

That form earned him a move abroad. Tottenham signed him in 2023, and Vicario quickly became a mainstay in London. He went on to play 117 matches for Spurs and was part of the side that lifted the Europa League in the 2024/25 season, a landmark moment in his career before this fresh chapter in Turin.

The deal itself is calculated rather than reckless. According to French outlet Foot Mercato, Juventus have taken the 29-year-old on loan with an option to buy set at 10 million euros, bonuses included. It’s a structure that protects the club financially while giving them control if Vicario delivers as expected.

The story, though, carries a twist. Vicario was not the first name on Juventus’ shortlist. The club had reportedly pursued Argentina’s Emiliano Martinez and Japanese goalkeeper Zion Suzuki before turning decisively to the Italian.

Now the shirt is his. The question is simple: can Guglielmo Vicario turn a pragmatic deal into the cornerstone of Juventus’ next era?
