Curtis Jones Ends 16-Year Liverpool Journey for Inter Milan Move
Curtis Jones has drawn a line under a 16-year Liverpool story, sealing a move to Inter Milan in a deal worth around £30m and bringing an emotional end to one of the club’s longest-running modern journeys.
The 25-year-old midfielder, a boyhood Red who walked into the academy as a kid with a dream, walks out as a double Premier League winner with more than 200 senior appearances, 22 goals and six major honours behind him.
“I came here as a kid… I’m leaving as a man”
Jones chose his own platform to say goodbye, posting a heartfelt message to Liverpool supporters as the transfer was confirmed.
“After 16 years, it's time to say goodbye,” he wrote. “I came here as a kid with a dream of playing for Liverpool, and I've been lucky enough to actually live that dream.”
He stressed just how much of his life has been wrapped up in the club, noting that he arrived as a teenager and now leaves as a father.
“This club is all I've ever known. I came here as a kid and I'm leaving as a man with a family of my own, which probably puts into perspective just how much of my life I've spent here.
“So much has happened during my time here, both on and off the pitch. I've made my debut, won trophies, made memories I'll never forget, and I've become a dad.”
That personal milestone, he said, has deepened his connection to the city and the club.
“Having my daughter while I've been here makes it even more special because Liverpool isn't just part of my story anymore, it's part of my family's story too.”
Thanks to Anfield – from academy to first team
Jones used his farewell to shine a light on the people who helped shape his career, from the academy pitches to the Anfield spotlight.
He thanked the staff and coaches who guided him through the ranks, as well as the often-unseen workers behind the scenes who keep the club moving.
Then came a nod to the dressing rooms he has grown up in.
“To all the lads I've shared a dressing room with over the years, thank you. I've played with some unbelievable players and made friendships I know I'll have for life,” he said.
Supporters, though, received his most pointed tribute.
“Thank you to the fans that stuck by me and always supported me. I will always be one of you.”
A new chapter in Milan
With the emotion of the farewell laid bare, Jones turned his gaze to what comes next. Inter Milan now becomes the stage for the next phase of his career.
“Now it's time for a new challenge and a new chapter for me and my family, and I'm excited for what's ahead,” he wrote.
He made it clear, though, that walking away from Liverpool does not mean cutting ties with what shaped him.
“But Liverpool will always be a massive part of me. I came here as a kid with a dream and I'm leaving having lived it.
“So genuinely, to everyone who has played any part in my 16 years here, thank you. I'll never forget it.
“YNWA.”
From academy hopeful to title winner, from local kid to Inter Milan signing, Jones leaves Anfield having done exactly what every youngster in that academy building dreams of doing: living the full Liverpool story before daring to write another one abroad.
