Chelsea Targets Boca Juniors Star Tomas Aranda

Chelsea are lining up a summer move for 19-year-old Boca Juniors playmaker Tomas Aranda, with the Argentine teenager rapidly emerging as one of the most in-demand prospects in South America.

According to Argentine outlet El Intransigente, Chelsea are not alone. Arsenal and Liverpool are also tracking Aranda, while Bayer Leverkusen, Como, Corinthians, City Football Group, Inter Milan, Parma and Sao Paulo FC have all registered interest. Any bidder knows the starting point: Aranda has a $20 million release clause in his Boca Juniors contract.

Boca’s latest gem

Tomas Aranda is the latest talent off the Boca Juniors production line. Born in Ciudadela, he came through the youth ranks at the club before forcing his way into the first-team squad at the Alberto J. Armando Stadium.

This season has been his real step up. Aranda has passed the 2,000-minute mark for Boca in 32 senior appearances, contributing two goals and three assists. Those numbers only tell part of the story; his influence on the ball and maturity between the lines have already earned him an international debut with La Albiceleste.

That rise has put Europe’s elite on alert. Arsenal, Chelsea and Liverpool are now among the front-runners in a crowded race for his signature.

Chelsea’s South American push

Chelsea’s interest fits a clear pattern. The London club have made a point of mining the South American market, aggressively targeting young talent and stockpiling prospects for the future.

Not every signing has settled, but some of those bets have paid off, with Estevao a prominent example of that strategy beginning to bear fruit. The belief is that Aranda, a technically sharp, creative midfielder who can operate between the lines, could thrive on a similar pathway.

The idea is simple: bring him in early, develop him within a defined structure and let his game grow at Premier League tempo.

Arsenal searching for a new spark

Arsenal’s pursuit has a different logic. They want another creative presence to ease the burden in the final third.

Martin Odegaard’s last two seasons have been disrupted by fitness issues, while Eberechi Eze’s first campaign has not delivered the consistent impact the club expected. On top of that, Arsenal recently missed out on Morgan Rogers, leaving a gap in their long-term planning behind the striker and out wide.

Aranda, with his versatility and eye for a pass, fits the profile of a long-term project who could grow into a central creative role rather than needing to carry that responsibility from day one.

Liverpool’s interest raises questions

Liverpool’s reported interest is more complex. Under Andoni Iraola, the squad already contains established playmakers, and the creative core looks well stocked.

Aranda can operate off the left flank, but Liverpool’s needs lean more towards a specialist winger than another hybrid playmaker, especially with Florian Wirtz and Dominik Szoboszlai already offering high-level creativity.

Even so, when a 19-year-old with this ceiling hits the market at a fixed price, big clubs at least take a look.

The question now is who moves first – and which project convinces Aranda that his next leap should be in London, on Merseyside, or somewhere else entirely in Europe’s elite.
