Tiago Gabriel: Lecce Defender in High Demand

Lecce defender Tiago Gabriel is emerging as one of the most talked‑about names of the early market, and a familiar powerbroker is right at the centre of it.

After a standout 2025/26 season in Serie A, the young centre-back has attracted concrete interest from abroad. Crystal Palace are in the race, while Benfica have already tested Lecce’s resolve with a €20 million bid earlier in the summer – an offer the Italian club turned down.

That refusal has opened the door for Jorge Mendes to widen the field. The super-agent is sounding out new destinations and, according to Italian reports, has put Tiago Gabriel on Milan’s table.

It is not a cold call. Milan and Mendes enjoy a long-standing relationship, and this is not the first time the Rossoneri have been offered the chance to sign the defender. The latest push came on a significant day: Mendes was in Milan on Thursday to wrap up the Diego Moreira deal, and during those talks, Gabriel’s name came back into focus.

Milan have included the Lecce talent on their shortlist and have already made initial contact with the Apulian club. For now, that is where it stops: interest registered, lines open, no formal bid.

Crystal Palace remain in the frame, Benfica have already shown their hand, and Lecce know they are sitting on a valuable asset. The next move belongs to Milan – do they turn admiration into an offer, or watch another of Serie A’s emerging defenders leave for elsewhere?
