Wayne Rooney Co-Hosts New Show with Mark Goldbridge

Wayne Rooney is stepping even deeper into the media world this season – and he’s doing it right in the heart of Manchester United’s online fan culture.

The club’s all-time leading scorer will co-host a new United-focused show, Stick to United with Wayne Rooney, alongside influencer Mark Goldbridge. The programme sits under Gary Neville’s rapidly growing Overlap brand and will run as part of a major new distribution deal with Disney+.

From the pitch to the fan channels

Rooney has become a familiar voice on The Overlap’s Stick to Football panel, trading dressing-room stories and sharp opinions with Neville and company. Now he moves from ensemble pundit to front man, sharing the stage with one of the most divisive – and watched – figures in fan media.

Goldbridge, real name Brent di Cesare, has built a vast following with his United-centric channel The United Stand and general football outlet That’s Football. Between them, his YouTube platforms boast more than 3.8 million followers, fuelled by viral clips of his furious rants, wild celebrations and unapologetically strong views.

Neville bought both channels earlier this year for an undisclosed seven-figure fee, folding them into his Overlap network. It marked a striking shift: a former United captain, now a leading broadcaster, investing heavily in the very style of fan content he once openly questioned.

Disney+ deal turbocharges The Overlap

The new show sits at the heart of a fresh agreement with Disney+. As part of the deal, the streaming platform will carry 50 episodes of Stick to United and 40 episodes of Stick to Football across the season.

Neville, who founded The Overlap in 2021, framed the move as a way to push the brand into a new tier without losing what made it popular in the first place. He said the partnership “expands our reach without compromising our identity”.

What began as a football-focused project has already stretched into other sports, with cricket and rugby content added under The Overlap umbrella. Bringing Goldbridge’s channels on board has only deepened its grip on the digital fan space.

From critic of fan TV to power player in it

Neville’s embrace of fan-led content comes with a twist of history. Back in 2017, he hit out at ArsenalFanTV, calling it “embarrassing” after supporters on the channel savaged Arsène Wenger in the wake of a 3-1 defeat to Chelsea.

Those comments sparked a public spat on Twitter and, eventually, a sit-down interview on the channel itself, where Neville explained his stance. The episode underlined the tension between traditional punditry and the raw, sometimes chaotic world of fan media.

Now Neville is not just engaging with that world – he’s bankrolling some of its biggest stars and putting one of United’s greatest players alongside them.

Rooney’s media portfolio keeps growing

Rooney’s workload in front of the cameras is only getting heavier. The Wayne Rooney Show will return to BBC platforms this season, while he continues as a pundit on Match of the Day.

For a player who once did his talking almost exclusively on the pitch, the next chapter is clear: Rooney’s voice is set to become one of the most prominent – and most scrutinised – in the Manchester United conversation.
