Competition Format

In 2024, the format shifted from traditional groups to a 36-team league phase. Each team plays eight matches against distinct opponents — split evenly between home and away. The teams are seeded into four pots, and all 36 clubs appear on one league table. Wins earn three points; draws yield one.

The top eight clubs move straight into the Round of 16. Teams placed ninth to 24th enter two-legged playoffs for the remaining knockout slots. Those finishing below 24th exit European competition.
