Barcelona’s Camp Nou Chosen Over Wembley to Host 2029 Champions League Final; Munich Set for 2028
UEFA announced on Tuesday that the renovated Camp Nou in Barcelona will host the 2029 Champions League final, beating out London's Wembley Stadium. This decision marks a positive step in Barcelona’s renewed relationship with UEFA after the fallout from the European Super League saga.
The 2029 final at Camp Nou will occur just one year before Spain co-hosts the 2030 World Cup alongside Portugal and Morocco. The 2030 World Cup final venue is still contested between Real Madrid’s Santiago Bernabéu, which has been renovated, and a new 115,000-seat stadium being built in Casablanca.
Munich Secured for 2028 Final
UEFA’s executive committee also confirmed the 2028 final will return to Bayern Munich’s stadium, as it was the only applicant. This will be just three years after the stadium hosted the 2025 final.
Camp Nou’s Ongoing Renovations and Features
The Camp Nou rebuild, expanding the stadium to 105,000 seats, remains under construction, with work continuing on the upper tier and roof. When completed, it will be Europe’s largest soccer stadium.
According to a Barcelona statement, the stadium will offer an unmatched hospitality and VIP experience, raising the standards of comfort and service for fans and guests.
More Tickets for Fans Expected
The increased capacity should allow more supporters of finalist teams to attend. For comparison, the 2024 final at Budapest’s Puskás Arena offered 61,400 tickets, with 17,200 allocated each to Paris Saint-Germain and Arsenal fans.
Historical Hosting Background
Barcelona last hosted a Champions League final in 1999, remembered for Manchester United’s dramatic late victory over Bayern Munich. Camp Nou also held the 1989 European Cup final.
Wembley has hosted the final eight times since the competition began 71 years ago, including three finals after Barcelona’s last hosting: 2011, 2013, and 2024.
This season’s Champions League final will take place at Atletico Madrid’s Metropolitano Stadium.

Lyon, the record eight-time winner of the Women’s Champions League, will host the women’s final in 2028. The 2029 women’s final goes to Cardiff at the city’s national stadium, which will also host the opening match of the 2028 men’s European Championship.
