Tyrell Malacia Joins FC Cincinnati from Manchester United
FC Cincinnati have moved to strengthen their back line with the signing of former Manchester United left-back Tyrell Malacia on a free transfer.
The 27-year-old Netherlands international arrives after his contract at Old Trafford expired at the end of last season, ending an injury-disrupted spell in England. He has signed a deal that runs through next June, with an option that could keep him in Cincinnati through the 2027-28 season.
Malacia joined United from Feyenoord in 2022 and went on to make 50 appearances for the 20-time English champions, his progress repeatedly checked by fitness issues but his pedigree never in doubt.
Cincinnati believe that experience at the sharp end of European football can now drive their MLS push.
"We are excited to add a player of Tyrell's experience," said general manager Chris Albright. "He's played at the highest levels of the game and understands the demands of competing in those environments.
"His quality on the ball, defensive instincts, and team-first mentality is a welcome addition to the group and we're happy to have him in Cincinnati."
For a club intent on turning domestic promise into lasting success, a battle-tested left-back with European scars and standards feels like a clear statement of intent.
