Tottenham's Transfer Blitz: De Zerbi's Excitement Over New Signings
Tottenham’s transfer blitz shows no sign of slowing, and Roberto De Zerbi is loving every second of it.
After a summer already bursting with big-money deals, Spurs have pulled off a headline-grabbing double move for Sávio and Omar Marmoush from Manchester City, as reported by ESPN. Sávio arrives in an £85 million package, while Marmoush joins on a season-long loan that includes an obligation to buy, potentially taking the total outlay on the Egyptian forward up to £60m.
Those two deals push Tottenham’s summer spending beyond the £350m mark. It is an extraordinary figure, even by Premier League standards, and it has handed De Zerbi the kind of attacking depth he craves on the eve of Saturday’s clash with Newcastle.
“I think Sávio and Marmoush are bomba,” he said, smiling. “I don't know what name or how you can call them but players of a high level, for sure.”
The Italian has been backed aggressively since walking through the door, yet he insists the spree is not quite over. Tottenham are still working the market hard in the final days before Tuesday night’s deadline.
“I didn't expect one transfer market and one window like we have done,” De Zerbi admitted.
He revealed he met the club’s powerbrokers over dinner on Thursday, a summit that underlined how aligned the manager and hierarchy now are.
“I think we can do one player more and in one specific position,” he said. “But yesterday we went for dinner with the owners, with Vinai [Venkatesham], with Johan [Lange] and with Enrico [Venturelli]. We spoke about this, but we have all of us on the same page and there is a very good connection.”
That connection has already delivered a frontline overhaul. Marmoush arrives on the back of a prolific run, scoring 37 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt and 16 for Manchester City, numbers that explain why Spurs were prepared to commit so heavily to his future.
He will add serious competition up front at a time when De Zerbi needs it most. James Maddison is not fully fit, Mohammed Kudus is only just returning from injury, and the fixture list is about to tighten. Fresh legs and fresh ideas in the final third are no luxury; they are a necessity.
De Zerbi is convinced Marmoush brings exactly that.
“A great signing for us. A great player, another great player and every one of us loves him as a player,” he said. “We hope he can do what he is able. I think he can give more solutions in attack. We need players in attack capable to score goals, to play well with the ball also, a very fast player, great qualities and we are all happy.”
Spurs now head into the Newcastle game with a reshaped, expensive, and suddenly fearsome attack. The money has been spent. The squad has been built. The question is simple: can De Zerbi turn this explosive recruitment drive into something that lasts beyond the summer buzz?
