Tottenham Pursues Tosin Adarabioyo as Danso Seeks Exit
Tottenham are scrambling to reshape their defence in the final days of the window, with a move for Chelsea centre-back Tosin Adarabioyo now on the table, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Spurs have already spent heavily this summer, but any late business is being driven by exits. The pressure is coming from inside the dressing room.
Roberto De Zerbi has confirmed that three players have asked to go, with Kevin Danso among them.
“He said too many times [Richarlison] he wants to leave. Danso came to me two days ago, and he said he wants to leave, and Pape Sarr, the same, but he suffer[ed] a small injury, but he is almost ready to train,” the Tottenham boss said.
That admission has forced Tottenham to accelerate plans for a new centre-back. Romano reports that Chelsea are working on a deal to sign Tosin, which in turn could free up Danso to depart.
Time is tight. The deal for Tosin is described as a “concrete possibility” for Spurs, though it is still unclear whether they will push for a loan or a permanent transfer. There is also the question of whether Chelsea are prepared to strengthen a direct rival, but Tottenham would hardly be this deep into talks without some encouragement from Stamford Bridge.
The urgency is clear. Sunderland are showing late interest in Danso, and with Spurs likely to sanction his exit, they need a replacement ready to walk through the door almost immediately.
Whether Tosin is the right fit is another matter.
He has struggled to nail down a starting place at Chelsea, and his next move feels pivotal. At this stage of his career, he needs minutes, not another fight to get off the bench.
Breaking into Tottenham’s back line will not be straightforward. Micky van de Ven, Marcos Senesi and Jan-Paul van Hecke are already established as the three main options in central defence, and any new arrival would start behind that core.
Tosin would add depth and competition, but the profile raises questions. A more versatile defender, capable of covering multiple roles across the back line, might suit Spurs’ needs better in a season that will test the full breadth of De Zerbi’s squad.
What does seem likely is that Tottenham’s final move of the window, after bringing in Iliman Ndiaye from Everton, will be at the back.
Whether that defender is Tosin Adarabioyo could define how bold Spurs really are in this late-window reshuffle.
